C) Product Interaction

What: actions you take inside the app, for example:

  • topics you follow or unfollow,
  • articles you open, save, hide, share, or mark as read,

We do not collect precise GPS location unless we introduce a feature that requires it and you explicitly consent.

Used for: localisation, showing region relevant content, service security (for example unusual activity detection), and aggregated analytics.

3) How we use your information

If we introduce advertising, attribution, retargeting, or similar tracking in the future, we will update this policy and provide any required choices and notices.

5) How we share your information

We may share information in the following circumstances:

A) Service providers

We use third-party service providers to help operate NewsFirst (for example hosting, databases, analytics, crash reporting, and email delivery). They may process information on our behalf only to provide their services, and must provide the same or equal protection of user data as described in this Privacy Policy. This requirement applies to third-party partners and any parent, subsidiary, or related entity with access to user data.

B) Legal and safety

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with a legal obligation or lawful request,
  • protect the security and integrity of NewsFirst,
  • enforce our terms and policies,
  • protect the rights, property, or safety of users, the public, or our business.

C) Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections.

6) Legal bases for processing (UK GDPR and EU GDPR)

If you are in the UK or EEA, we process information under these legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the service you request (for example accounts and core features).
  • Legitimate interests: to improve NewsFirst, maintain reliability, measure usage, and keep the service secure, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation: where we must comply with applicable laws.
  • Consent: where required for specific optional features (for example any future precise location feature or marketing opt-in).

7) Data retention

We keep information only as long as necessary for the purposes described:

  • Account data (email, user ID): retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it without undue delay and at the latest within one month of receipt of your request (or, if later, within one month of receiving information needed to verify your identity). Where permitted by law, this period may be extended by up to two further months for complex requests or a high volume of requests, and we will notify you within one month of receipt of your request with the reason for any extension.
  • Diagnostics and performance logs: retained for a limited period, typically 30 to 180 days, to investigate issues and improve reliability.
  • Usage and interaction data: may be retained in aggregated or pseudonymised form for product improvement. We aim to minimise retention of data that directly identifies you.

8) Your choices and rights

A) In-app and device choices

  • You can choose not to provide certain information, but some features may not work (for example account features without an email).
  • You can control some permissions and diagnostics in your device settings.

B) UK/EEA rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • access your information,
  • correct inaccurate information,
  • delete your information,
  • object to or restrict certain processing,
  • data portability,
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise these rights, contact support@getnewsfirst.app. We may ask you to verify your identity.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for example the UK Information Commissioner's Office).

9) International data transfers

Our service providers may process information outside the UK or EEA (for example in the United States). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards designed to protect international transfers.

10) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No system is completely secure, but we work to reduce risk and respond to issues quickly.

12) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice within the app or by other appropriate means. The "Effective date" above shows when this policy was last updated.
